No Injuries in Sumter County Freight Train and Jeep Collision
In Sumter County, Florida, a dramatic incident occurred early Saturday morning when a freight train collided with a disabled Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep had become stranded on railroad tracks, leading to the crash.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place as a 57-year-old woman from Bushnell was driving her red Jeep eastbound on County Road 720, situated east of US-301. The vehicle became disabled on the tracks at an ungated railroad crossing, leaving it unable to move.
Realizing the danger, the driver quickly exited the Jeep before the CSX freight train, which consisted of about 80 rail cars, struck the vehicle. The impact caused the train to come to a stop, but fortunately, neither the driver nor the two train engineers sustained any injuries.
