Stephen King has made a dramatic return to social network X after a three month absence, immediately taking aim at Donald Trump and Elon Musk. The acclaimed American writer accused both men of being traitors and Putin loyalists, reigniting political tensions on the platform.
King’s comeback post on February 20 was brief but provocative. “I’m back! Did you miss me?” he wrote before launching into a direct attack on the former US president and the billionaire tech mogul. “I just wanted to say that Trump is a traitor, a Putin lover! This is even more true of Elon!” he added.
The best selling author had previously announced his departure from X on November 15, 2024, citing the platform’s increasingly toxic environment. However, before returning, he was active on the alternative platform Bluesky. Just days prior to his return to X, King had written: “Just when you think Donald Trump can’t get any lower or more disgraceful, today he blames Ukraine for the war and calls Zelenskiy a dictator, when he knows full well that Putin’s constant re-election is a sham.”
The timing of King’s reappearance coincides with the upcoming premiere of Osgoode Perkins’ horror film Ape, based on one of his stories. However, he has chosen to use his platform for political criticism rather than film promotion. His post has already attracted over 150 thousand likes.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has continued his attacks on Ukraine, recently referring to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a “dictator without elections.” This remark sparked reactions from European leaders, including those from the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, and Norway, who rejected Trump’s baseless claims.
