Ukraine is gearing up for significant diplomatic engagements with the United States following the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20. Heorhiy Tykhyi, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, announced during a press conference that preparations are underway for high-level talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Trump.

“Our position is straightforward: Ukraine seeks a fair end to the war, and we believe President Trump shares a similar determination to achieve peace,” Tykhyi said. “The most important step now is a meeting between President Trump and President Zelenskyy, as cooperation with America is vital for achieving this goal.”

While no formal invitation has been extended to Zelenskyy for Trump’s inauguration, the U.S. President-elect has expressed his readiness to host the Ukrainian leader in the near future. Trump has not commented on the specifics of the potential meeting but emphasized his willingness to engage in dialogue with Ukraine.

In response to questions about attending Trump’s inauguration, Zelenskyy stated, “I cannot visit without an invitation,” signaling that while the visit may not coincide with the ceremony itself, the intention to meet remains strong.
