Zelensky Confirms Active Operations by 225th Assault Regiment in Belgorod Region

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the 225th Assault Regiment is actively conducting operations in the Belgorod region as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen defensive positions and confront Russian forces. The announcement was made during his evening address, where he emphasised the continuing operations along Ukraine’s border, particularly in the Belgorod region. This area has seen an increase in Russian military activity, with additional troops being concentrated there in an effort to launch a new offensive against Ukraine.

The 225th Assault Regiment’s deployment in the region is intended to reinforce Ukrainian defensive positions and enhance their ability to destroy enemy forces. This move comes as part of broader efforts to prevent Russian forces from establishing new lines of advance into Ukrainian territory. The regiment’s participation in the operation has been confirmed by the unit’s official channels, which also dismissed Russian propaganda claims that the regiment had been surrounded.

One of the regiment’s key actions in the region has been targeting Russian military infrastructure. In particular, the 225th Regiment played a significant role in the destruction of several key bridges in Grafovka and Nadezhdovka, working in close coordination with the Ukrainian Air Force. These strategic strikes are part of the broader objective to disrupt Russian logistics and slow their advancing forces.

Additionally, it was reported that Ukrainian drone operators from the 414th Separate Brigade of Unmanned Aerial Systems, also known as “Birds of the Magyar,” successfully shot down 33 Russian reconnaissance drones in the Kursk-Belgorod sector over the course of four days. Among the downed drones were 17 Zala 421s, 14 Supercam S350s, one Tachyon, and a rare and costly Merlin-VR drone. These successful operations have significantly hampered Russian reconnaissance efforts, further undermining their operations along the border.

The ongoing operations in the Belgorod region highlight Ukraine’s preparedness to counter Russian offensives and prevent the creation of new frontlines on Ukrainian soil.
