NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has stated that Ukraine must receive security guarantees strong enough to ensure that Russian war criminal Vladimir Putin will never again attempt to seize Ukrainian territory. Speaking at a briefing, Rutte emphasised that deterrence and defence measures should be put in place to prevent any future attacks on Ukraine.
He made it clear that the Alliance and its allies are already providing Ukraine with extensive support, including defence equipment and ammunition, to help resist ongoing Russian aggression. The NATO chief stressed that the goal is to send a clear message to the Kremlin that any future attempt to grab Ukrainian land will not succeed.
The statement comes ahead of a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council, where security guarantees and military assistance will be key topics of discussion. NATO leaders are expected to review the steps needed to strengthen Ukraine’s defences and ensure long-term stability in the region.
