Russian troops have failed to gain new ground in Pokrovsk for more than a month despite deploying significant personnel and resources. The Pokrovsk sector remains one of Moscow’s priority targets, yet Ukrainian border guards and defence forces continue to hold the line. In some cases, Russian troops have even lost previously occupied positions.
Ukrainian defenders report that the enemy is now focusing on disrupting logistics by using drones extensively. While this tactic complicates supply lines for Ukrainian forces, it has had the most devastating effect on civilians who still remain in the city. Russian air strikes and drone attacks continue to target residential areas, increasing the hardship for those who have been unable to evacuate.
Ukrainian border guards and defence units remain active on the outskirts of Pokrovsk, ensuring that Russian forces do not make further advances. In the past month, they have not only prevented Russian troops from gaining any new footholds but have also pushed them back in some areas. Ukrainian forces have also managed to capture several high value Russian targets, further weakening enemy operations in the region.
The battle for Pokrovsk reflects the broader struggle across Ukraine, where Russian forces, despite superior numbers and firepower, continue to struggle against well organised and highly motivated Ukrainian defenders. While Moscow hoped to seize strategic locations quickly, Ukrainian resistance has repeatedly forced them into prolonged battles, significantly slowing their progress.
