Ukraine is set to receive another batch of F-16 fighter jets from the Netherlands as part of an ongoing agreement between the two nations. This was confirmed by Ukraine’s Defence Minister Rustem Umerov following a recent meeting with his Dutch counterpart, Ruben Brekelmans, in The Hague. Umerov expressed gratitude for the Netherlands’ significant support in 2024 and outlined plans for continued assistance in 2025.
The F-16 fighter jets remain a top priority for Ukraine, with the next delivery scheduled for 2025. The ongoing training of pilots, engineers, and technicians is a critical component of the programme. Minister Umerov acknowledged the Netherlands’ pivotal role in the Air Force Coalition, assisting in the development of Ukraine’s air force infrastructure and overall aviation capabilities.
In addition to the F-16 programme, the two sides discussed further military cooperation, including the allocation of a €400 million drone programme. This initiative aims to strengthen Ukraine’s long-range capabilities, alongside the provision of artillery ammunition, air defence systems, and interceptor missiles. Umerov praised the Netherlands for its clear understanding of Ukraine’s military needs and commitment to meeting them.
Industrial collaboration is also a focal point of the discussions, with both countries aligning their plans for the creation of joint defence enterprises. These enterprises are expected to significantly enhance the operational capabilities of both Ukraine and the Netherlands’ armed forces. Umerov stressed the importance of swift and effective action, ensuring the efficient use of military aid on the battlefield.
The Netherlands has already made significant contributions to Ukraine’s defence. In October 2024, the first batch of F-16s was handed over to Ukraine, marking an important milestone in the ongoing support. This new batch of fighter jets will further strengthen Ukraine’s air capabilities as the country continues to defend itself from external aggression.
