Zelenskyy: Iran and North Korea Supporting Russian Aggression

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Iran of direct involvement in Russia’s war against Ukraine by supplying long-range drones and granting licenses for their production in Russia. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Zelenskyy highlighted the growing challenge posed by foreign support to Russia’s military aggression.

Zelenskyy remarked that Iran’s contribution has intensified the conflict. “Globally, Iran is already involved in this war. Their drones strike our infrastructure, hospitals, and schools, killing our people. They have even issued licenses to manufacture these drones within Russia,” the President stated.

The situation in eastern Ukraine remains critical, with over 60,000 Russian troops deployed in the region. Additionally, Zelenskyy noted that 12,000 North Koreans have reportedly joined Russian forces, with 4,000 of them killed in combat. “Putin’s strategy is to involve other countries in this war,” he added, warning of the increasing internationalisation of the conflict.

Key Players Involvement
Russia Over 60,000 troops in eastern Ukraine
Iran Providing drones and production licenses
North Korea 12,000 personnel, 4,000 reported casualties

Zelenskyy also pointed out that parts of the US military aid for 2024 are still en route, exacerbating Ukraine’s challenges as it battles Russia’s concentrated forces in the east. The reliance on foreign weapons, coupled with delays in their delivery, underscores the need for increased and timely support from allies.
