Residents of the Pervomaiska community in Mykolaiv district discovered a terrifying piece of ordnance on January 20, 202, – a FAB-500 high-explosive bomb, which posed a significant threat to the local population. The bomb was found near the village, and upon its discovery, the State Emergency Service (SES) was promptly alerted.
Specialists from the SES arrived at the scene and, using specialised equipment, safely removed the bomb. They then transported it to a designated safe area, where it was successfully neutralised. The bomb was a potent reminder of the ongoing risks civilians in Ukraine face as a result of the Russian invasion.
The SES has issued a safety reminder to all citizens. If a suspicious object is spotted, it is crucial not to approach or touch it. The public is urged to immediately call the emergency services at “101” if they find any unexploded ordnance. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also continues to warn civilians to avoid areas marked with “Dangerous Mines!” signs and to remain on the roads when travelling.
In the week leading up to this incident, Ukrainian sappers from the State Special Service of Transport discovered, seized, and neutralised 1,557 explosive devices, underscoring the ongoing threat posed by landmines and unexploded bombs in areas affected by the war.
