Fierce Fighting Continues on Pokrovsk Outskirts as Enemy Struggles to Advance
In the Pokrovsk sector, heavy clashes have been reported along the outskirts of the city as Russian forces intensify their efforts to push forward. However, Ukrainian defence forces have successfully kept the enemy out of the city itself, despite the continued offensive on its periphery. The Khortytsia operational and strategic grouping of troops (OSGT) provided an update on January 18, confirming that while the situation remains challenging, there is no enemy presence within the city limits.
The ongoing battle centres on the outer areas of Pokrovsk, where Russian troops are attempting to capitalise on their numerical advantage. Despite this, Ukrainian forces have held firm and continue to resist the enemy’s attempts to develop their offensive. The Khortytsia OSGT also clarified that reports circulating on media platforms about Russian forces entering Pokrovsk were false. The enemy remains concentrated on the surrounding outskirts, where intense fighting continues to rage.
On the morning of January 18, the Khortytsia OSGT detailed the areas of heavy combat, including Zelene Pole, Vodyane Druhe, Yelizavetivka, Promen, Zvirove, Udachne, Uspenivka, Sribne, Dachne, and Yantarne. There is also fierce fighting in Lysivka, Zelene, Shevchenko, Kotlyne, Petropavlivka, and Novovasylivka. Despite suffering significant losses, the Russian forces are determined to continue their push towards Pokrovsk. The Khortytsia OSGT confirmed that the enemy is deploying additional reserves in a bid to maintain their offensive momentum, with the aim of capturing the city or approaching its outskirts.
