Israel on High Alert Over Hamas Invasion Fears

Israeli security officials have held an urgent meeting following an unusual development that could suggest Hamas is preparing for a ground assault into Israel. Journalist Ariel Oseran revealed details of the meeting on X, stating that top Israeli security and political figures gathered to discuss the situation. Authorities have permitted limited details to be released, but the exact nature of the potential threat remains unclear.

The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which has paused over 15 months of hostilities, remains fragile. According to health officials in Gaza, the conflict has claimed approximately 48,000 Palestinian lives. Despite the ceasefire, Israeli forces continue to conduct airstrikes in Gaza, southern Lebanon, and southern Syria. On Monday alone, at least 10 people, including a child, were killed in the latest attacks. The Israeli military claims its strikes are aimed at militants who are planning assaults on Israel.

The situation in Gaza remains dire, with Israel cutting off electricity and restricting aid in an attempt to pressure Hamas in ongoing negotiations. Following a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump has reportedly expressed interest in sending US troops to the region. The proposed plan includes relocating Palestinians from Gaza to neighbouring countries to allow for reconstruction efforts, a strategy that has been met with widespread condemnation from Arab nations and Palestinian leaders.

At least 57 Muslim-majority countries have denounced Trump’s plan to transform Gaza into what his administration has described as the “Riviera of the Middle East.” The proposal has further exacerbated anti-US sentiment in the region, with critics warning that any forced displacement of Palestinians would lead to severe geopolitical consequences.
