Ukrainian military intelligence successfully destroyed a Russian 1L219M Zoopark-1 counter-battery radar system valued at $23 million using four drones costing $2,300 each. The precision strike by the “Wings” unit of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) highlights the growing effectiveness of Ukrainian drone warfare against costly Russian military equipment, emphasizing the imbalance in resource efficiency between the two sides.

(Kyiv) – Ukrainian military intelligence has delivered another significant blow to Russian forces by destroying a 1L219M Zoopark-1 counter-battery radar station, according to a report by the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) on November 28. The operation, carried out by the “Wings” unit of the HUR, demonstrated the continued success of Ukraine’s drone warfare in targeting high-value Russian assets.

A video released by the HUR captured the operation in detail, showing Ukrainian drones tracking the radar system’s movements and deployment. Four long-range FPV drones, each costing approximately $2,300, were then used to strike the $23 million radar system. The initial strikes caused the radar’s operators to attempt an escape, but the effort proved futile as the equipment was reduced to a burning wreck in the middle of a field.

The Zoopark-1 radar is a sophisticated Russian system designed for artillery reconnaissance and fire control. Mounted on an MT-LBu tracked chassis, it can detect enemy mortar and rocket launcher positions from distances of 17 to 45 kilometers by analyzing projectile trajectories. This capability makes it a vital tool for Russian artillery operations, further underscoring the significance of its loss.

The HUR did not disclose the exact location of the strike but highlighted the cost-effectiveness of the operation, which caused millions of dollars in damage using only a fraction of the expense. This strike comes after HUR reported another success in eliminating a Russian 48Ya6-K1 “Podlet” radar system near Kotovske in Crimea, showcasing Ukraine’s growing ability to dismantle Russia’s military capabilities.
