(Kyiv) – Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) successfully targeted and destroyed a significant Russian radar system on 28 November in the western part of Crimea, specifically near the village of Kotovske. The radar complex, identified as a Podlet system, was a crucial asset for the Russian military and was valued at approximately $5 million.
The destruction of the Podlet radar comes at a time when Russia had launched a major drone and missile strike on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Despite this simultaneous attack, the Ukrainian intelligence services were able to carry out their operation with remarkable precision.
The Podlet radar was considered strategically vital for Russian forces. It was designed to detect aerial targets at low and extremely low altitudes, even in environments with complex interference. This capability made it an essential component in providing target designation for Russia’s advanced air defense systems, including the S-300 and S-400. The GUR emphasized the significance of this radar, underscoring its role in supporting Russia’s defense capabilities in the region.
In its statement, the GUR highlighted the operation’s precision and the complex intelligence required to carry it out.
