(Kyiv) – Russia’s military casualties in Ukraine have exceeded 2,000 for the first time, a significant increase that highlights the severe toll of the ongoing conflict. The Ukrainian General Staff reported on November 29 that Russia’s forces sustained 2,030 casualties in the past 24 hours. This marks a new high, surpassing the previous record of 1,950 casualties reported on November 12. As of now, the total number of Russian casualties stands at 738,660.
The report did not specify how many of the 2,030 casualties were killed, wounded, missing, or captured, but these numbers generally reflect all personnel losses, not just fatalities. This surge in casualties reflects the continuing intensity of the war and its growing human cost for Russia.
In previous assessments, the United Kingdom had estimated that Russia’s casualties stood at around 550,000. However, Russia has not updated its official casualty count since September 2022, when it acknowledged nearly 6,000 deaths. The lack of updated official figures from Russia adds to the uncertainty surrounding the actual toll of the war.
The latest report also includes remarks from Estonian Colonel Ants Kiviselg, who heads the Estonian Defense Forces Intelligence Center. He suggested that North Korean troops, who have reportedly been involved in the conflict, are likely to suffer heavy losses as well, potentially surpassing Russian casualties in the ongoing fighting.
