On February 1, 2025, the Ukrainian Navy reported the presence of two Russian ships in the Black Sea, one of which is equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles. These missiles pose a potential threat to Ukrainian and regional security. According to the Ukrainian Navy’s Telegram channel, the ship carrying the Kalibr missiles can launch up to four of these weapons.

In addition to the Black Sea, there are also six Russian ships positioned in the Mediterranean Sea, two of which are armed with Kalibr missiles capable of firing up to 22 missiles. However, there are no Russian ships operating in the Sea of Azov, a body of water that has been a point of tension throughout the ongoing conflict.

As of 06:00 on February 1, 2025, the Ukrainian Navy tracked the movements of Russian vessels through the Kerch Strait, a strategic passage used by Russia to send ships to the Black Sea. Over the course of a day, five vessels passed through this strait and continued toward the Black Sea, while 12 ships made their way to the Sea of Azov, with five of them coming from the Bosphorus.

The continued presence of Russian warships in the Black Sea and Mediterranean highlights the ongoing threat posed by Russia, as it maintains a substantial military presence in these critical waterways. Moreover, the Russian Federation is reportedly violating the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) by disabling automatic identification systems on its vessels, further raising concerns for maritime safety.
