Poland’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Czeslaw Siekerski, has voiced Poland’s unwavering support for Ukraine and Moldova in their journey toward European Union membership. Speaking at a press conference in Krakow, Siekerski underlined that aiding these neighboring countries aligns with both Poland’s and the EU’s strategic interests.

Siekerski discussed the significance of the “Summer School for Representatives of the Administration of Moldova and Ukraine,” a project based in Małopolska. This initiative is designed to impart Poland’s extensive experience in transforming its agricultural sector over the past 20 years as an EU member. The goal is to equip Ukraine and Moldova with the knowledge and skills necessary for their own EU accession.

Poland, having navigated the complexities of EU membership, offers valuable insights that could greatly benefit its eastern neighbors. Siekerski pointed out that Poland’s experience with European structures could serve as a crucial guide for Ukraine and Moldova as they prepare to meet the EU’s legal and institutional requirements.

The Summer School project facilitates meetings between Ukrainian and Moldovan agricultural officials and Polish experts. These discussions focus on the practical aspects of operating within the EU’s common market and effectively utilizing EU funds. The exchange of ideas and experiences is seen as a critical step in helping these countries align their agricultural policies with EU standards.

Siekerski acknowledged that while EU accession brings numerous benefits, it also poses challenges. Implementing the EU’s legal and institutional frameworks can be daunting, particularly for countries like Ukraine, which is still grappling with the effects of ongoing conflict.
