Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are working to set a date for a meeting aimed at discussing critical issues, including the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine. Negotiations are expected to take place in the coming days.
Fico stated during a visit to eastern Slovakia that both sides are searching for a mutually suitable date. “We are looking for another date, which should be in the next few days,” he said in response to a journalist’s question, without providing additional details.
On January 13, Fico extended an invitation to Zelenskyy to hold talks near the Slovakia-Ukraine border. The proposed agenda included discussions on the future of Russian gas transit through Ukrainian territory. However, Zelenskyy suggested the meeting be held in Kyiv instead.
The difference in venue preferences has so far delayed the discussions. Fico declined Zelenskyy’s proposal to meet in Kyiv, and efforts to finalise an alternative venue continue.
