The arrival of a new Boeing B787 Dreamliner, scheduled for Monday, August 19, 2024, in Zanzibar, was delayed due to weather conditions. The aircraft, which was expected to land at 10:00 PM and be received by President Hussein Mwinyi of Zanzibar at the Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, could not arrive as planned.
Tanzania’s national airline, ATCL, and the Zanzibar State House Communications Directorate issued apologies for the change in schedule. According to ATCL, the delay was caused by adverse weather conditions beyond their control. A statement from the airline’s Public Relations and Communications unit explained that the new arrival schedule would be announced later and apologized for the inconvenience caused.
A similar apology was issued by the Zanzibar State House Communications Directorate, signed by the Deputy Director of Communications, Raqey Mohamed. The Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar expressed regret for the disruption caused by the delay.
The Boeing B787 Dreamliner has a capacity of 262 passengers, and the arrival of this aircraft will increase the number of this type of plane in ATCL’s fleet to three. Speaking to Mwananchi, Raqey Mohamed clarified that the weather disruption occurred in the United States, where the aircraft was purchased.
