Airports in Volgograd and Vladikavkaz have suspended all flights following a security alert linked to drone activity. The restrictions were imposed on the night of March 9, with Russian aviation officials confirming that flight operations were halted as a precaution. A special safety protocol known as the “Carpet” plan has been introduced in North Ossetia, where authorities have declared a drone safety regime.
Aviation officials reported that operations at Volgograd Airport were suspended at 22:05 Moscow time to ensure the safety of civil aircraft. Officials stated that air traffic controllers, military personnel, and airport services were coordinating efforts to maintain flight security. The head of North Ossetia, Sergey Minyaylo, announced that Vladikavkaz Airport was also shut down as part of emergency measures.
The “Carpet” plan is a protocol activated in response to aerial threats. It was previously implemented on February 26 when drones reportedly struck Krasnodar Krai. At that time, explosions were recorded in Tuapse and Anapa, damaging several houses. Sochi Airport also faced emergency measures as authorities reacted to the growing number of drone incidents in Russian airspace.
