(Kyiv) – Ukraine has ramped up its defense capabilities, with the State Special Communications Service delivering more than 20,000 unmanned systems to the Defense Forces in the first 10 days of 2025, marking a strong continuation of its domestic drone production efforts.
The State Special Communications Service of Ukraine announced the handover of more than 20,000 unmanned systems to the Defense Forces in early 2025. This massive delivery aligns with Ukraine’s focus on strengthening its military capabilities through locally produced equipment. According to a statement shared on the agency’s Telegram channel, the drones include various types tailored to meet specific operational needs identified by Ukraine’s Security and Defense Sector.
This latest batch of deliveries builds on the achievements of 2024, during which Ukraine handed over nearly 1.3 million drones to its defense forces. Impressively, 97.7% of these were domestically manufactured, underscoring the rapid development of Ukraine’s defense industry despite ongoing challenges posed by the war.
Year | Drones Delivered | Domestic Production (%) |
---|---|---|
2024 | 1.3 million | 97.7% |
2025 (10 days) | 20,000+ | N/A |
The Ministry of Defense highlighted that domestic enterprises produced more than 1.5 million drones in 2024, encompassing strike, reconnaissance, and first-person view (FPV) models. These figures reflect Ukraine’s intensified focus on building a robust and self-reliant defense sector amid the conflict.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has emphasized the importance of scaling up domestic drone production. On January 11, he announced directives to increase both drone orders and the production of Ukrainian weapons, signaling a commitment to leveraging technological advancements for national defense.
Ukraine’s reliance on homegrown solutions represents a strategic pivot, enabling it to reduce dependency on foreign suppliers while addressing the dynamic requirements of modern warfare.
