UPDF Chief Deepens Defence Ties with Russia After Moscow Visit

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of Uganda, recently held a meeting with a high-level Russian military delegation at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe. The delegation was sent by the Russian Minister of Defence and had a primary goal of exploring opportunities to enhance relations between the Russian Armed Forces and the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF).

The meeting, which was also attended by Lieutenant General James Mugira, the Managing Director of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the business arm of the UPDF, focused on discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation in defence and security between the two nations.

This meeting follows General Kainerugaba’s recent visit to Moscow, where he led a military delegation. During his visit, General Kainerugaba engaged in discussions with top Russian military officials. The visit and subsequent meetings are part of ongoing efforts to deepen military ties between Uganda and Russia.

General Kainerugaba’s engagement with the Russian delegation underscores the growing cooperation between the UPDF and the Russian Armed Forces, which could lead to enhanced security partnerships in the future.

These discussions align with a series of recent meetings General Kainerugaba has had with top military officials from Russia, indicating a strong commitment to building on the existing relationship between the two countries’ defence forces.
