Oscar Sudi, the Member of Parliament for Kapseret, has stirred controversy on social media by displaying his Sh17 million Ulysse Nardin Freak Phantom wristwatch. The luxury timepiece has ignited heated discussions, with critics accusing the MP of insensitivity, especially at a time when many Kenyans are struggling with hunger.
Sudi revealed that the watch was a gift from a former prime minister of another country. “I had two watches like this, but I didn’t even know their exact value,” Sudi told Oga Obinna during an interview.
In the same interview, Sudi also commented on the luxurious lifestyle of former Transport Minister Kipchumba Murkomen. Sudi highlighted that Murkomen, who has served as a lecturer, senator, and now as a minister, was once noted for owning a watch worth Sh900,000. This revelation also sparked discussion online.
Sudi questioned the perception of Murkomen’s watch, asking, “What is Sh900,000 really worth?” He continued, “Sometimes Kenyans misunderstand. A watch like this wasn’t made for trees or cows to wear; it was made for humans. Who else should wear such a watch? Let’s stop the envy.”
Reactions to Sudi’s comments have been mixed. Some people defend the MP, arguing that his wealth and luxurious lifestyle are the results of his hard work and business success.
