Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – ACT Wazalendo, a political party in Tanzania, has launched an ambitious plan to conduct a tour across 22 regions on the mainland. The tour aims to address citizens’ concerns, encourage voter participation, and register 10 million new members.
Key Objectives of the Tour
The tour, led by party leader Doroth Semu, is set to begin on July 22, 2024. Accompanying Semu will be prominent party leaders, including Vice Chairman Isihaka Mchinjita, Secretary General Ado Shaibu, and former party leader Zitto Kabwe. Each leader will focus on different regions, ensuring comprehensive coverage.

Encouraging Voter Participation
Shangwe Ayo, Deputy Secretary of Information, Publicity, and Communications for ACT Wazalendo, addressed the media in Dar es Salaam on July 17, 2024. He emphasized the party’s goal of mobilizing citizens to actively participate in the upcoming local government and general elections.
“We are preparing to enter these elections, and we see the need for this tour because the current government has shown no intention of liberating Tanzanians,” Ayo stated.
Addressing Citizens’ Concerns
Ayo acknowledged that many Tanzanians, especially the youth, have lost faith in voting due to unfulfilled promises by elected officials. Through this tour, ACT Wazalendo aims to listen to citizens’ grievances and offer solutions.
“We have recognized the challenges facing Tanzanians, and through this tour, we intend to return to our people, listen to them, and provide them with strategies to remove the ruling party from power,” Ayo explained.
Registration Drive for New Members
A significant part of the tour’s agenda is to register 10 million new members in preparation for the local government elections and the 2025 general elections. Ayo noted that the party currently has one million registered members through a digital system, but many potential members have not yet been reached.
Current Members | Target Members |
---|---|
1 Million | 10 Million |
“We aim to register members from this tour until the 2025 general election, as our goal is to take power, and we believe that to achieve this, we need a sufficient number of members,” Ayo said.
Aiming for a Digital Economy
The agreement between Tanzania Posta and AzamPesa, signed in the presence of Deputy Minister Maryprisca Mahundi, aims to enhance the digital economy by promoting cashless transactions. This move is expected to address the frequent conflicts at Kariakoo market, where traders face tax-related issues with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA).
Detailed Itinerary and Leaders’ Responsibilities
The tour will cover 125 constituencies on the mainland. Each leader will be responsible for specific regions to ensure all areas are addressed.
“Chairperson Semu will visit Dodoma, Manyara, Singida, Arusha, and Kilimanjaro. Vice Chairman Isihaka will cover Selou, Mtwara, Lindi, Pwani, and Tanga. Secretary General Ado will tour Mwanza, Simiyu, Mara, Geita, and Kagera. Former leader Zitto will focus on Kigoma, Rukwa, Katavi, Tabora, Shinyanga, and Kahama,” Ayo elaborated.
Concluding Remarks
The primary goal of this extensive tour is to prepare citizens for the local government elections and the 2025 general elections. By addressing their concerns and registering new members, ACT Wazalendo aims to build a strong support base and challenge the ruling party effectively.
“We aim to register 10 million members and listen to citizens’ grievances because the current government has failed to provide solutions,” Ayo concluded.
