A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 struck off the eastern coast of Russia early on Sunday morning, as reported by the US Geological Survey (USGS). The earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately 55 miles from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a city with a population of about 181,000. The quake occurred at a depth of about 30 miles.

The US Tsunami Warning System has issued a warning stating that hazardous tsunami waves could potentially affect areas within 300 kilometers (approximately 186 miles) of the earthquake’s epicenter along the Russian coast.
