Racheal Kawala, the regional police spokesperson, stated that during interrogation, Kijjaja confessed to luring and killing the victims. The police are investigating his involvement in at least three murders in the area.

The first incident involves the murder of businessman Charles Serugo on December 7, 2022. Serugo was attacked and killed by unknown assailants while sitting in his compound in Kabukira village, Kalangalo sub-county, Mityana district. He was struck with sharp pangas on the head and died on the spot.

The second case is the murder of Rosemary Mugabirwe on September 9, 2023. Mugabirwe, a 35-year-old resident of Kanyogoga zone, Bukasa Parish, Makindye division in Kampala, was found dead on a farm in Wabiyinja B village. She had been raped and sustained multiple injuries. A phone number belonging to her sister was found written on her left palm.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Kijjaja lured Mugabirwe from Kabalagala-Kanyogoga and murdered her in Kikandwa, Mityana District.

The third victim, Ndyayambaje Didas, 32, a boda boda rider, was discovered dead in Kamira Ntumbwe swamp, Kalangalo sub-county, Mityana District. Investigations indicate that Kijjaja lured Didas from Bukoto, killed him in Mityana, and stole his motorcycle.

Kijjaja was apprehended on August 6, 2024, at his home in Buwate, Wakiso District. He is being held at Mityana Police Station for further questioning.

In Uganda, murder is a capital offense punishable by death under section 189 of the Penal Code Act. Courts may impose the death sentence in cases of deliberate, premeditated killing, especially when deadly weapons are used, reflecting extreme cruelty and disregard for human life.
