Ukrainian state oil company Ukrnafta has started the development of one of its newest and most promising oil fields in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. This is the company’s first new drilling project in 13 years. The company has plans to drill an additional 10 wells in the coming years to further develop the field.
The first well has already been drilled, marking a significant milestone in Ukrnafta’s efforts to increase its domestic production capacity. According to the company, this particular field, which was discovered in 1990, is located at an elevation of 1,080 meters above sea level. The area is known for its challenging terrain and the lack of adequate infrastructure, which has made it a difficult place for large-scale development.
Serhiy Koretsky, Director of Ukrnafta, explained that due to the complexity of the environment and insufficient market interest in developing the area, the company has decided to work independently without private partners. This decision was driven by the company’s determination to push forward with its domestic energy production despite the challenging conditions.
To carry out this project, Ukrnafta has transported its own drilling rigs to the remote site, and early results indicate that the company’s efforts are beginning to pay off. This project represents a significant step towards reducing Ukraine’s dependency on external energy sources, as the company works to strengthen its domestic oil and gas production capabilities.
