Ukraine and China Forge New Agricultural Alliance

Ukraine and China are set to deepen their agricultural cooperation following discussions between Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Vitalii Koval and Ma Shengkun, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Ukraine. The talks focused on opening new export markets and establishing agricultural processing enterprises utilizing Chinese technology, as reported by the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry via Ukrinform.

Minister Koval highlighted the robust trade potential between the two nations, noting significant figures in agricultural commerce. “For example, over the first 10 months of 2024, Ukraine’s agricultural exports to China reached USD 250 million. Meanwhile, imports of agricultural products from China into Ukraine exceeded USD 220 million,” he stated.

Educational initiatives in agriculture emerged as another pivotal area of cooperation. Koval emphasized that Ukraine is eager to exchange expertise and gain new knowledge, describing agricultural education as a “long-term bridge” for strengthening ties between the two countries.

Both sides agreed to foster deeper connections through continued dialogue at the ministerial level and collaboration with agricultural associations. The mutual goal is to explore more opportunities for beneficial partnerships.

In related developments, representatives from the Ukrainian State Service on Food Safety and Consumer Protection and the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) discussed strategies to expand sales markets for Ukrainian crop and livestock products. This dialogue underscores a shared commitment to enhancing agricultural trade and cooperation.
