(KYIV) – Ukraine and India have signed an agreement to cooperate in agriculture and the food industry, marking a significant step toward enhancing bilateral relations in these sectors. The agreement is set to last for five years and aims to create mutually beneficial opportunities, improve market conditions, and strengthen national food security in both countries. The signing ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotskyi and India’s First Deputy Minister of External Affairs Vikram Misra, with the presence of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This agreement outlines extensive cooperation in various areas of agriculture and the food industry. Key aspects include the exchange of information on laws, standards, and products, which will facilitate better understanding and alignment of agricultural practices between the two nations. Joint research in genetics, biotechnology, plant protection, and other scientific fields will be a cornerstone of this partnership, aiming to apply cutting-edge technology to improve crop yields, soil productivity, and water resource management.

A significant focus of the agreement is the exchange of experience in animal husbandry, particularly in enhancing dairy cattle breeds and sharing genetic resources. Both countries will also collaborate on crop production, seed production, and plant variety rights, sharing knowledge and technology to advance agricultural practices.

The agreement also emphasizes the importance of irrigation technology, with a particular interest in micro-irrigation systems like drip irrigation. Research on the effective use of fertilizers is another critical area of cooperation, aimed at optimizing agricultural inputs for better crop production.

Trade in agricultural and food products will be promoted, with both countries seeking to establish joint ventures and share information on food market development. The agreement further includes cooperation in food safety standards, packaging technologies, and the aquaculture and fisheries sectors, where both nations will exchange expertise and resources to enhance production and sustainability.

This partnership between Ukraine and India represents a strategic alignment in agriculture, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and the development of modern farming practices. The five-year agreement is expected to strengthen ties between the two nations, providing a solid foundation for future collaboration in these critical sectors.

In a related development, both Ukraine and India have called for comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council to reflect contemporary global realities and enhance its effectiveness in maintaining international peace and security.
