IG Orders Suspension of Mityana Planner Over Corruption Allegations
The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has directed the suspension of Tadeo Mukalazi Lusaalu, a senior physical planner at Mityana Municipal Council, while an investigation into corruption allegations is underway. Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, Deputy Inspector General of Government (IGG), issued the order for Lusaalu’s suspension on August 5, 2024.
Dr. Okiria instructed the town clerk of Mityana Municipality to suspend Lusaalu from his duties immediately. She emphasized that, given the seriousness of the case and the ongoing court proceedings, it is crucial for public officials facing such allegations to be removed from their positions until the matter is resolved.
The directive follows a court case in which Lusaalu is accused of corruptly soliciting and accepting bribes. Under sections 2(a) and 26(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2009, this offense can lead to a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison if convicted.
Lusaalu has pleaded not guilty to the charges before Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Abert Asiimwe at the Anti-Corruption Court.
According to Article 230(2) of the Constitution and Section 13(6) of the Inspectorate of Government Act, the IGG has the authority to issue such orders as deemed necessary based on their findings and duties.
The allegations against Lusaalu include claims that, between October and December 2023, he solicited 2 million shillings from Elizabeth Seyuuni to approve building plans for the construction of a girls’ dormitory by 100% Hope Uganda. Lusaalu allegedly made these requests in his capacity as a senior physical planner and secretary of the urban physical planning committee at Mityana Municipal Council.
