KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Three key Kansas City Chiefs players could be back on the field in the near future.
WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, RB Isiah Pacheco and DE Charles Omenihu’s returns all appear to be imminent, according to head coach Andy Reid.
“I think they’re all close, I’d probably tell you JuJu is closer than the other two,” Reid said. “We might have them out there, we’ll just see how it goes today and tomorrow. They’re very close, all three of them.”
Pacheco has been out since Week 2 with after fracturing his fibula and Smith-Schuster has played in six games but hasn’t played since Week 6 due to a hamstring injury. Omenihu has yet to play this season after tearing his ACL in the 2023 AFC Championship.
While the Chiefs are 9-0, their returns should provide the team with a boost. While playing better as of late, the offense has been inconsistent and have struggled getting production from the receiver position outside of newly acquired Deandre Hopkins.
Pacheco and Kareem Hunt should form a formidable tandem out of the backfield and take some of the load off of Hunt, who has been a workhorse since he joined the Chiefs in Week 4.
Omenihu came up big for the Chiefs in the playoffs last season and provides them with another pass rusher.
The Chiefs are getting healthier at the right time as they enter the second half of the season and gear up for the playoffs.
They face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday in one of the most anticipated matchups of the NFL season at 3:25 p.m.
