MANHATTAN (KSNT) – Police in Manhattan say a local man is in custody following an “overnight crime spree” in the Little Apple involving two businesses and a home.

Ashley Tokoi with the Riley County Police Department (RCPD) said in a press release that officers were called to a report of a business alarm at a business in the 400 block of Third Place in Manhattan. Officers responding to the call found a broken window at the business.

Police a short while later received a report of criminal damage to another business in the 100 block of Bluemont Avenue. The RCPD said a person entered the business, stealing shotgun shells before leaving.

Tokoi said the RCPD then received a third call around 12:40 a.m. on Nov. 8 from a 71-year-old woman who said a man had stolen her car, cellphone and a handgun. Police determined the man, later identified as a 23-year-old from Manhattan, was the same individual who broke into the other two businesses.

The RCPD worked together with officers and deputies with the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Marysville Police Department to find an arrest the 23-year-old. Law enforcement found and arrested the man around 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 8 in the 6200 block of Tuttle Creek Boulevard on charges of burglary, criminal damage to property, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary.
