LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) – Hinesville hosted its annual Veteran’s Day parade this afternoon, which drew dozens to the streets of downtown to cheer on local veterans and military personnel.
Hinesville is home to the 3rd Infantry Division (ID) at Fort Stewart and many veterans who reside there. The community is filled with men and women who fought for American freedoms and way of life. The Hinesville Veteran’s Day Parade, hosted by East Liberty County Legion Post 321, bringing its community to the streets of downtown to honor those who served in the military.
“…to be able to come out with all the soldiers and represent our country and such an integral time, especially with our elections just finishing up,” said Ericka Florence, Hinesville resident. “It’s really great to come out and have the community out supporting the people who are on the ground doing the work.”
Proud chants and cheers rippled throughout the town as the 3rd ID, local veteran organizations and high school ROTC groups marched. Post Commander of Post 321, John Lamb said they have been preparing for this day for 6 months.
“Pretty good crowd come out from the town,” Lamb said. “I can’t really give you an estimate of exactly how many people I’d probably say a couple thousand people come out and they line the streets and they cheer us on because most of them are veterans as well.”
The parade is annual tradition that many veterans and active military personnel say they are thankful for.
“In the parade, and even a small town like this where they bring everybody out and the whole community gets to see the people who are who are serving their country,” Almalik Aluqdah said. “I’m always here for it. So that’s why I’m here.”
