BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Amvets Post 9 hosted its Veterans Day ceremony for the 34th year in Bismarck.
“[It’s] just to recognize the veterans in the area and the sacrifices they’ve made,” said veteran and event MC Ashley Cermak, “and to honor the veterans that are currently serving.”
Amvets Post 9 is part of a national organization known as Amvets that helps veterans with life after service. And while the Bismarck Club’s Veterans Day ceremony hasn’t changed much over the years, people attending the ceremony say it’s the tradition that keeps them coming back.
“I’m honored to be a part of it,” said Cermak.
The ceremony started with a welcome from Cermak and the Amvets commander. After an invocation from the chaplain and the posting of colors, a heart-wrenching edition of the national anthem was sung by the club’s choir.
The staple of the ceremony — honoring the deceased — then took place, where 46 families got to place a rose for their fallen loved ones.
“I get a lot of good feedback from the public,” said Cermak. “I have a lot of support from these people.”
The ceremony concluded with a tolling of the bell, salute, and rifle salute and taps.
