Football around Georgia: Week 11 review

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Georgia struggles in key conference game. Georgia Tech pulls off a stunner against a top team. Georgia Southern prepares to get going after a week off and the Falcons drop a division game to the Saints.

Here is this week’s review of college and NFL football around Georgia.  

#2 Georgia vs #16 Ole Miss – Georgia falls in the rankings after losing 28-10 to the Ole Miss Rebels this past Saturday. The Bulldogs’ offense struggled to ever get into a rhythm as they only managed to post 245 yards of total offense on the day.

Quarterback Carson Beck continues to struggle as he went 20 of 31 on the day for 186 yards and one interception. The senior signal caller now has 12 turnovers through the air on the season.

Georgia RB Nate Frazier was responsible for the Bulldogs’ lone trip to the endzone. Frazier had 12 carries on the day for 47 yards.

Georgia will now head home to take on the #7 Tennessee Volunteers. The Volunteers are currently 8-1 on the year.

Georgia Southern vs Southern Alabama – Georgia Southern is in Statesboro this week to take on the 2-7 Troy Trojans.

Georgia Tech vs #4 Miami – Georgia Tech comes up big at home as they knock off #4 Miami. The Yellow Jackets had 370 yards of total offense in the 28-23 upset. The team ended the day with 270 yards on the ground.

Junior QB Haynes King was ready to go in his first game back following an injury. King was 6 of 6 through the air for 32 yards and one touchdown. King was also the team’s leading rusher with 20 carries for 93 yards and one rushing touchdown.

The 6-4 Yellow Jackets will stay in Atlanta this week as they prepare to take on the 5-5 NC State Wolfpack.

Savannah State vs Benedict College – The Tigers end the regular season with a loss as they fall to Benedict 35-27. The Tigers had no problem moving the ball as they finished the day with over 500 yards of total offense.

Quarterback Jhaydon Sullivan was 20 of 35 on the day for 400 yards. Sullivan was responsible for three touchdowns through the air along with one interception.

WR’s Da’Shun Mitchell and Brent Carr combined for 414 total yards of receiving in the game. Mitchell had 12 catches for 227 yards and two touchdowns. Carr finished his day with 6 catches for 187 yards and two touchdown receptions.

Savannah State finishes the year with a record of 5-5. They finish 4-4 in conference play.

Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints – The Atlanta Falcons give one back in the NFC South standings as they fall to the New Orleans Saints 20-17. Atlanta did win in the category of overall offensive productivity as they finished the day with 468 yards of total offense while the Saints had 365.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins was 23 of 38 through the air for 306 yards and one interception. RB Bijan Robinson was the only Falcon to find the endzone on Sunday. He finished the day with 20 carries for 116 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Atlanta will now head to Denver to take on the 5-5 Broncos. The Broncos are coming off a 16-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs this past week.
