WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Investigators are currently in south Wichita, where five people have died.
According to the Wichita Police Department, just before 6 p.m., they received a call about a death in the 1700 block of Santa Fe. When officers arrived, they found a man dead of apparent gunshot wounds inside a home.
Shortly after, they did a follow-up on another home in the 1900 block of S. Laura St. There, they found three more people dead of apparent gunshot wounds.
While police canvassed the neighborhood, an officer checked another residence on South Laura by looking through a window and discovered what appeared to be a victim in the living room. Officers forced their way in and found a man dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Police do not know when these shootings happened or how far apart they were, but they do believe that all five victims knew each other and may have died by the same hand.
“We believe the investigation will determine that one of those victims was the shooter of all the other victims, but it’s just too early on in the investigation for us to make a statement as to who we believe that is, but we have strong direction,” WPD Chief Joe Sullivan said.
Police believe one of the five was the shooter, killing the other four, then turning the gun on themself.
The WPD believes there is no threat to the community and does not believe there are any other injuries.
