Minot YMCA gets grant to provide access to YMCA360

MINOT, ND (KXNET) — The Parkinson’s Foundation gave the Minot Family YMCA a generous grant.

The funding is intended to provide access to YMCA360, which is a virtual health and wellness platform for people diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

Participants using YMCA360 can access over 6,000 on-demand videos from the comfort of their homes with any internet-enabled device.

The platform covers general fitness, yoga, balance improvement, mindfulness, meditation, and cooking classes.

Content also includes support and activities for people with Parkinson’s, while focusing on wellness activities that improve physical, cognitive, and mental health.

YMCA360 is usually included in a membership, or as a standalone YMCA360+ membership, but with the new funding, the Y will be able to provide complimentary YMCA360+ memberships to people diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. As an added perk, each YMCA360+ member will get one free visit to the Minot Family YMCA each month.

Those who qualify are encouraged by the Y to attend the Movement Matters classes, they are designed for those with Parkinson’s or balance-related health conditions who want an active lifestyle while focusing on cardiovascular conditioning and flexibility.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Parkinson’s Foundation for their generosity and support,” said Minot Family YMCA Healthy Living Director, Russell Gust. “Thanks to this grant, we can now offer this transformative program free of charge to individuals with Parkinson’s, Parkinsonism, and their families, especially those who aren’t physically able to attend our Movement Matters classes at the Y.”
