SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Thursday’s downpour brought rising levels of water in the City of Savannah throughout the day, leading to road closures and stalled cars.
The streets of Savannah are prone to floods from heavy rainfall, and there is a tool to stay alert to which areas to avoid in such an event.
The city has developed and shared an interactive map that highlights areas with the greatest to least impact.
Savannah is located in the coastal region of Georgia that is particularly low and flat. Downtown and Midtown Savannah see the most impact.
Below, you’ll find a map of flood-prone areas provided by the city identified by crowdsourced data (yellow), City of Savannah Water Resources data (purple) and additional areas identified by computer modeling (red) as particularly prone to flooding during an extreme rainfall event.
The city also provides an updating list of road closures. Click here to view that list.
