SAVANNAH, Ga (WSAV) — After Thursday’s hearing with the City of Savannah and the owner of Octane Bar and Lounge, the doors will stay locked for the remainder of the year.
This comes after the business had its liquor license revoked in September due to a number of criminal incidents in and around the property.
“Unfortunately, you’ve put yourself in this position by your business practice that you’re here today,” Savannah Mayor Van Johnson said to the owner during the show-cause hearing. “Sorry, but that’s what happens when you don’t take care of the privilege you’ve been granted.”
News 3 is told after numerous complaints, the Alcohol Compliance Beverage Unit (ABC) completed an undercover investigation that revealed the business served underaged customers. Their security staff didn’t follow certain protocols, according to the investigation.
The Savannah Police Department said they met with the owner after citations were issued and discussed ways to mitigate the problems.
Octane management agreed to city council conditions with plans to open back up for business in 2025. The bar will be on a six-month probationary period which will include adjusted operation hours. The business will be open until midnight Sunday through Thursday and shut down at 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
They will be expected to meet with the ABC Unit monthly, have dually certified police that have jurisdiction in the area and adhere to the good neighbor agreement.
The bar owner said to the council, “My bar has been closed for two and a half months, so believe me, I have had enough time to think about all the stuff.”
