COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) – If you are looking for work in South Carolina, The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce can support you through the process.

In July 2024, the Department of Employment and Workforce launched a job search initiative called Explore SC@Work.

Explore SC@Work is a resource that can give job seekers information about what a job entails, what credentials are needed, and what pay they can expect.

Executive Director of SCDEW, William Floyd, said people aren’t always aware of the opportunities.

“We want to make sure parents, students, educators, know about the wonderful opportunities throughout the state,” Floyd said. “Whether they’re up in the Upstate or down at the coast, there are employers that are ready, willing and able to hire young people and others entering the workforce.”

Executive Director Floyd said there are thousands of unfilled jobs in South Carolina, and the main goal of Explore SC@Work is to help people avoid unemployment.

Explore SC@Work works with several companies to help state residents learn about jobs and new companies, including Gregory Electric Company.

President, Bob Livingston, said that they just began working with the program and are eager to expand their workforce.

“We have open spaces for linemen and people who want to be linemen, apprentices and helpers,” Livingston said. “We are always looking for good people. You give me five linemen and five apprentices, I’ll take them tomorrow.”

Livingston said he will hire people with little-to-no experience.

“For the lineman program, you do not need a degree. We would prefer a high school diploma, but we’ll take a GED or someone that has shown motivation, and we will teach you to trade,” Livingston said.
