Russian ruler Vladimir Putin has no plans to congratulate Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election, his press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, said in comments to Russian state media. He described the US election results as “an internal matter of that country,” as per UNIAN.
Donald Trump’s return to the presidency raises concerns about US relations with Ukraine and Russia. Trump has previously claimed he could end the war in Ukraine “within 24 hours,” a statement many view as overly simplistic. Reports suggest he may pressure Ukraine to cede territory and abandon NATO aspirations, aligning with proposals from his advisors for a demilitarized zone. Ukraine fears that his unpredictable approach could diminish US support, leaving Eastern Europe vulnerable to further Russian aggression and fundamentally altering the dynamics of the conflict.
According to Peskov, relations between Russia and the US are at their lowest point in history, and their future depends on the US leadership. The Kremlin has also denied any accusations of interference in US elections.
At the same time, Peskov noted that Putin is open to contact and dialogue with the US and mentioned a possible phone conversation with Trump. The Kremlin will assess Trump’s presidency based on his initial statements on Russia and his concrete actions.
“Russia will judge the actions of the US government, and any hypothetical discussions about plans to end the war in Ukraine are inappropriate. Putin remains open to constructive dialogue with the US, but Washington’s attitude is the opposite. Whether it will change will become clear in January,” said Peskov, adding that the US could help end the war.
Republican Donald Trump will return to the White House for a second term, having secured the necessary electoral votes. A few hours later, Donald Trump declared victory in the US presidential election during an address to his supporters in Florida. In his speech, Trump announced his intention to end all wars, including the one in Ukraine.
