Military analyst and veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war Oleksii Hetman says the Russian occupiers are likely preparing a major offensive in the Zaporizhzhia front, Suspilne has reported.

Ukrainian military officials have reported increased activity from Russian forces, particularly near Pryiutne and Robotyne on the Zaporizhzhia front, where they are amassing personnel and heavy equipment to conduct assault actions designed to push deeper into Ukrainian-held areas and potentially seize the city of Zaporizhzhia itself.

The situation remains precarious, with reports of Russian aerial attacks causing civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure across the region, including multiple strikes on settlements and critical facilities. Meanwhile, Zaporizhzhia Oblast is significantly expanding its defensive infrastructure with the construction of second and third lines of defense while also fortifying areas around cities.

“There is a gradual, slow, but steady advance of the enemy along the entire eastern front. Moreover, they are likely preparing for some serious offensive actions on the Zaporizhzhia front. They have concentrated a significant amount of manpower and equipment close to Huliaypole toward Orikhiv. Therefore, we can expect attempts at offensive actions in this direction,” explained Hetman.

In the northern front, says Hetman, the Russians are trying to reach the Oskol River and attempting to cross it.

Additionally, the expert explained how worsening weather conditions would affect offensive operations.

“It is likely to slow down the Russians’ ability to advance but not significantly. It will hinder them, but one shouldn’t rely too much on it. However, it is also not easy to hold the defense if you are standing in a trench filled with water,” the expert noted.

Earlier, military analyst Ivan Stupak stated that there is a risk of a Russian offensive in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and therefore, Ukraine must consider the worst-case scenarios, RBC reported. According to him, the Ukrainian Defense Forces located on the Zaporizhzhia front have been expecting that “something should begin” for several months.
