Savencia Cheese USA announces voluntary product recall

NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — Savencia Cheese USA is issuing a voluntary recall of select products that could potentially pose a Listeria risk.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, as well as miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women. Healthy individuals can also be infected, but may only suffer short-term symptoms like high fevers, headaches, nausea, stiffness, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

According to a press release from Savencia Cheese, it was identified that processing equipment at one of their facilities may have been contaminated. While finished testing has not identified any contaminated products, the company has issued a voluntary recall of cheese that could be infected. The recall affects all of the following products:

The products being recalled can be identified by reviewing the UPC and best buy date on product labels. The few retailers who have received these products have been informed of the possible contamination, and are working to remove affected cheese from shelves. Customers who have any of the products listed in the table are advised not to consume them, and to return them to their place of purchase for a full refund.
