BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — People who are enjoying sober living gathered in the capital city on Wednesday, where they are spending time at the Bismarck Event Center for this year’s Recovery Reinvented.
The event brings in panelists who share their own stories of how drugs and alcohol affected their lives and their families, and what it took to find hope and success.
Around the capital city, Tied For Second sober living is one place that helps people get back on their feet after they’ve finished treatment.
“The magic timeframe of six to nine months in sober living after a stay in treatment really gets people on their feet,” said Tied for Second director Michael Lynde. “It’s kind of the same message we’re hearing here, with Recovery Reinvented. Obviously, with that support of the grassroots people — where there’s peer support, as the first lady was talking about — but also just different areas: giving them a safe, stable environment that’s not the same place that they came from.”
Once again this year, Governor Doug Burgum and First Lady Kathryn Burgum hosted the event. Their goal is to help take away the shame and stigma around addiction.
