$266 Million F-16 Support Package Approved for Ukraine

The US State Department has approved the sale of F-16 maintenance equipment and support services to Ukraine, enhancing its air defense capabilities amid ongoing threats.

(Kyiv) – The United States has approved the sale of maintenance equipment and support services for F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. This package, valued at $266.4 million, includes mission planning systems, technical assistance, and training for personnel. The announcement was made by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency and communicated to Congress as part of the formal process.

The package comprises critical components designed to enhance Ukraine’s ability to maintain and deploy F-16 jets effectively. It includes equipment from prominent defense contractors such as Sabena Aerospace in Belgium, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Texas, and Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut.

The US Department of Defense emphasized that this sale is part of an effort to bolster Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, enabling it to counter current and future threats. The aid package aims to provide Ukraine with the tools necessary to conduct self-defense operations and contribute to broader regional security.

Ukraine’s F-16 fleet has already demonstrated its value. In November, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported the successful use of the jets to intercept and destroy seven cruise missiles targeting civilian areas. This highlighted the importance of the aircraft in Ukraine’s ongoing defense strategy.

The approved maintenance package reflects continued US support for Ukraine in the context of its conflict with Russia.
