The Supervisory Board of Energoatom, the state-run nuclear energy company of Ukraine, has appointed Jarek Neverovich, a former Lithuanian Minister of Energy, as its new chairman. This decision was made during the board’s meeting on 17 January 2025. Alongside Neverovich, Michael Kirst, a seasoned nuclear energy expert with over 30 years of experience, has been named deputy chair.
The Supervisory Board, which now includes these new appointments, has outlined a strategic course focused on the implementation of OECD corporate governance standards. It has also prioritised the highest levels of nuclear safety, transparency, and professionalism in order to bolster the critical role Energoatom plays in Ukraine’s energy sector and its international relations.
The government, which formed the Energoatom Supervisory Board in June 2024, has expressed that this step is essential for the company’s effective management, aligning it with national and international legislation and best practices. First Deputy Minister of Economy, Oleksii Sobolev, emphasised that the full functioning of the board will ensure that Energoatom meets legal requirements and international standards. This is particularly vital given that Energoatom is the largest electricity generator in Ukraine, and its operational efficiency directly affects the stability of the nation’s energy system.
