Video Shows Ukrainian Forces in Belgorod as Kursk Clash Continues

Ukrainian forces have reportedly entered Belgorod Oblast, a region in Russia, as their incursion into Kursk Oblast continues. This development was highlighted by Ukrainian media on August 10, following the release of a video showing soldiers in Belgorod.

In the video, members of Ukraine’s 252nd Battalion, identifiable by blue tape armbands, are seen outside a building in the village of Poroz. One soldier announces, “I wish you health, the 252nd battalion is in the village of Poroz, Belgorod Oblast. Glory to Ukraine!” The soldiers can be seen holding the battalion’s flag and a Georgian flag, with the building behind them marked as the “Porozovsky Village Club.”

The video, which was confirmed to be filmed in Poroz by Ukrainian fact-checking project VoxCheck, shows the village located about three kilometers from the Ukrainian border. It is unclear when the video was taken or whether this represents a raid or an extension of the ongoing cross-border incursions.

Ukrainian officials and military commanders have not yet made an official statement regarding the operation in Kursk Oblast. The information currently available relies on limited and often unverified sources from Russian Telegram channels and anonymous videos.

On August 9, Russian authorities initiated a “counter-terrorism operation” in Kursk, Bryansk, and Belgorod Oblasts in response to the Ukrainian incursion. The Russian Defense Ministry announced that additional military equipment would be sent to the Sudzha district of Kursk Oblast, located 10 kilometers east of the Ukrainian border.

There are reports suggesting that Russia might be hesitant to reallocate troops from other frontlines to Kursk, as this could potentially disrupt Russian operations in eastern Ukraine, according to the Institute for the Study of War.

On August 10, Belgorod Oblast Governor Viacheslav Gladkov stated that access to the village of Poroz is restricted due to the “counter-terrorism operation.” He also mentioned that residents who have left the area have not reported seeing any enemy forces or hearing gunfire. Approximately ten people are still residing in the village, according to Gladkov.
